Carl J. Poveromo

Carl J. Poveromo graduated from Villanova University cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in 1982 and from Syracuse University College of Law in 1985. While at Syracuse, he interned for the Honorable Max Rosenn of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third District. He also was a law clerk in the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office.

After receiving his Juris Doctorate, Attorney Poveromo served as an Assistant Public Defender for Lackawanna County. He became an Associate at Rinaldi & Mellody, P.C. in 1985, working his way up to principal in 1991. From 2003 to 2007, Attorney Poveromo was a Conflicts Counsel/PCRA Counsel for Lackawanna County. He also became a member of Esquire Land & Abstract, LLC in 2008.

Attorney Poveromo is active in many professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and the Lackawanna Bar Association. Attorney Poveromo serves as an attorney on the Criminal Justice Act Panel for the United States District Court of the Middle District of Pennsylvania, representing indigent defendants in federal criminal prosecutions. He has also served as a member of the Criminal Justice Act Panel Best Practices Committee from 2013 to 2015 and the Criminal Justice Act Panel Selection and Management Committee from 2010 to 2013 and from 2019 to the present day.

Besides his extensive trial practice, Attorney Poveromo is a frequent lecturer for the National Business Institute. He was honored by the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers in 2017 for his work and was selected for inclusion into the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers list from 2011-2020.

He is admitted to practice law in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and all State Appellate and County Courts; U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania; U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania; U.S. District Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit; U.S. District Court for South Carolina, pro hoc vice; and the United States Supreme Court.

In the community, Attorney Poveromo is a member of the Parish Community of St. John the Evangelist in Pittston, a member of the Greater Scranton YMCA, and a member of the Villanova Alumni Association.
